Pukaar in EAT Festival, April 2006The Bargate stage, on Sunday 30th April from 4pm-8pm will feature the amazing world music from Pukaar. Pukaar on Your Local TV!, April 2006Pukaar is soon to regularly feature on Southampton’s Six TV as part of the new AND Magazine Show. From April 2006 Pukaar will be bringing multi-cultural music and performance to your living room. This will include showcasing of Southampton’s up-and-coming talent and our first broadcasting of the Pukaar documentary. Watch this space for the time of our 1st show! On 19th December 2005 Pukaar joined up with the Salvation Army Youth Band to put on a modern multi-cultural carol concert - traditional brass meeting Asian Bhangra! Read More... Balle Balle in YMCA Young Carers Festival, July 2005The children at the the festival got a taste of some funky balle balle by the Pukaar band. Multicultural Festival 2005, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, June 2005The multicultural festival held on Saturday 25th June at the Nuffield theatre was a great success. Tickets were sold out 1 day before the show and the Southampton community got an opportunity to taste a wide range of music flavours from around the world. Read More... Pukaar Open Day 2005, Nataraj Restaurant, Southampton 19th May 2005While most of Southampton was cold, and wet yesterday, Nataraj Restaurant was full of warm well wishers and supporters for Pukaar's first open day. The aim of the open day was to invite the community into Pukaar to build stronger relationships within the community. Read More... Refugee Action Conference, Bosworth Hall Hotel, Market Bosworth 20th April 2005Bosworth Hall Hotel was rocked all night long by some scintillating tunes from Pukaar's live and energetic performance. It was the band's 3rd live act within one week. And it wasn't just the band members who were entertaining. The audience joined in the act with their agile dance moves. The whole floor was taken over, with not a single soul sitting down. What a party! Read More... See pictures... Pakistan Day and Eid Mela, Southall Community Centre 16th April 2005Young Fellows Association cordially invited Pukaar to play live on the auspicious occassion of Pakistan Day and Eid Mela 2005. The function saw the likes of lengendary Rehana Akhter, folk maestro Meera Sadaf and Bila Sher come together and perform some classic songs. Our own band was greeted with a warm welcome and we had the honour of being requested by these greats to accompany them in performing live later in the evening. Shaurn Kaur, P.M. Raj, Romail Gulzar and Paritosh Padhy all starred with their solo tracks. The function lasted from 8pm to 1:30am! See pictures... Sainsbury's Gig at Shirley, Southampton 17th March 2005Sainsbury’s was an alternative location for the Pukaar bands latest gig. Instead of playing at the usual parties, clubs and festivals, the opening of the newly refurbished store in Shirley combined Sainsbury’s and Pukaar’s love of helping the community. Read More... Kastori 2005 - University Talent Show 5th Mar 05Since Pukaar's 1st event with the Hindu Society in April 2003 Pukaar has continued to work with student groups at Southampton University to promote music and arts. 5th of March saw one more night of brilliance as the students of both Southampton University and Southampton Institute came together under one roof in Highfield to organise a very eventful evening: Kastori 2005. The event was graced by the presence of the charming Miss Southampton, Editor of AND magazine and the Director of Think Media Music. Read More... Global Dance for Voluntary Services Overseas, Southampton 11th Feb 2005This was a fundraising event, attended by over 250 people. The crowded Talking Heads Venue in Portswood was host to the Pukaar Band and live DJs playing African, Latin and World Fusion music. The first Asian woman DJ from Southampton, DJ Nicky, also played a live set. Multicultural Family Event 18th Jan 2004The Pukaar Project’s first event of 2004 attracted a crowd of around 150 people at POSH Restaurant. The event welcomed many families with children of all ages and wide range of different nationalities. Our second family party was a huge success. The aim of this event is to bring together children from different backgrounds and make them aware of other cultures, as well as their own. This year the party was attended by the Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Dennis Harryman, and by Paul Woodman 'the magician' from the charity Splash. There was live bhangra music and the second Pukaar Album was launched. Pukaar would like to thank Refugee Action from Southampton, Hello Project and HSBC Bank for sponsoring the event. Valentine Dinner Dance 14 Feb 04Good food, good music, good entertainment…the Valentine Dinner Dance was simply good fun! The Maple Leaf Club was full of red balloons and beautiful red roses handed out to all the ladies at the door for Pukaar’s Valentine Dinner Dance on 14th February 2004. Christmas Curry Party 20th Dec 2003On Saturday 20 December, Pukaar held the Project’s last Curry party of 2003. The Pukaar Christmas Curry party was an evening of fun, of lots of dancing and therefore was once again a great success. 5th Pukaar partyI wasn't at the 5th Pukaar curry party, but it was another great event by all accounts. The Jazz band, Hemi Bhatt Collective played a great set early on - we look forward to the next time they join us. Once again Pukaar rocked the venue with their Bhangra beats. Pukaar Curry Party 4The event went really well Julie Dunn's Jazz went down a treat and was commented on by many people. The food was great (provided this time by India Gate). It was a truely multicultural event with 14 different nationalities represented. Our third Pukaar Curry Party was a great successThe Maple Leaf was full to capacity and we even had to turn a few late comers away - sorry guys, please book in advance next time in order to avoid disappointment. As usual people of all ages, from students to silver citizens, plus a wide mix of ethnic backgrounds were represented - this after all is what the Pukaar Curry Party is all about. Pukaar Curry Party July 2003The Pukaar Curry Party held a storming second event on July 17th. Once again we saw guests from all sections of the community, many who had been before, but it was great to see all the new faces as well. Pukaar Curry Party June 2003Our first Pukaar Curry Party event was held at the African Caribbean Centre, St Mary's, Southampton in June 2003. The aim was to provide an informal atmosphere with Indian food, live music and DJ. The venue was chosen on the basis of location, suitability and cost. Tickets were sold at £10 per head and £8 for concessions.
