Pukaar was founded on putting on evening social events where a broad mix of people from within Southampton can come together over food and performance in an environment that encourages social interaction. These events affectionately became known as Pukaar Curry Parties and have become the basic model of our multi-cultural events. From our Curry Parties we have developed a constantly expanding annual programme of broader events based on the same theme e.g. lunchtime Family Parties, Boat Parties, Student Talent Shows and a Multi-cultural Festival.

This involves an audience of 100 - 120 that get together and dine to an Indian buffet and live musical performances. Typically the audience comprise of around 8 - 10 different ethnic groups. Everyone is welcome to come and a ticket costs only £10. (To ensure that individuals with low economic status are able to attend we offer a certain number of tickets free of cost with the help of other organisations within the city e.g. Refugee Action, CLEAR, Eastleigh Housing. The evening includes an open plan table setting, a buffet meal and performers who encourage the audience to both dance and interact. Performances consist of two to three acts. These acts include a broad mix of individual musicians.
