Pukaar's First Christmas Album - Peace On Earth
   Naomi Fraser, 11th Dec 2005

After lots of hard work and a few last minute 'tweaks' Pukaar was very excited to launch their first Christmas album, Peace on Earth. Launched on 10th December 2005 at St Denny's Community Hall, Leicester, it features nine tracks in three different languages (Urdu, Punjabi, English) and includes AND Magazine Editor's, Martin Perry, own song written way back in the 70s, "Mrs Hardy".

Organised by Leicester Asian Christian Fellowship over 150 people attended the launch which was opened by a blessing of the album by Lord Bishop of Leicester, Rt. Rev. Tim Stevens. The blessing must have worked as around 100 copies were sold at the launch alone! All funds from album sold on the day were donated by Pukaar to support relief work in Pakistan.

The album fetures 9 tracks of traditional folk music of the East and West, two in Urdu, four in Punjabi, three in English. Music is written by Naeem Saleem from Pakistan ('Guru' of Pukaar's Founding Director, Romail Gulzar) and lyrics are by Romail, except for "Holy Night" (traditional) and Martin Perry's "Mrs Hardy". Songs sung by Naeem Saleem, Azeem Saleem, Alyea Saleem, Martin Perry and Romail Gulzar. The CD cover is designed by Martin Perry - thanks Martin!

Since 10th December Romail has received many invitations to play and perform songs from the album including on Asian Gold Digital Radio (901 KHz) and Subras Radio in Leicester (1260KHz).
