Pakistan & India Friendship Forum 2007
Alanah Tumber, 9th February 2007
On the 8th February 2007 Romail Gulzar the chairman of Pukaar, a media and entertainment based company, was invited to attend the Pakistan-India Friendship Forum UK. Alongside chairman of Venus TV (Sky 807) Mr Tahir Ali with his team filming the event for broadcast in the near future.
The House of Commons hosted the official launch of the Pakistan-India Friendship Forum UK last night. The event was supported by a number of public figures and hosted by its chairman Dr. Rami Ranger (MBE, FRSA).
One of the forum’s objectives is to eliminate mistrust and suspicion between the communities. India and Pakistan have a long complicated history of conflict and are still experiencing disputes today, but last night witnessed only smiles, laughter and celebration of the two nations.
Dr. Rami Ranger who received an MBE for service to British Business was praised throughout the evening for his success. “What a star,” commented Councillor Mrs Mimi Harker, “he has a fantastic vision. The gift of this man is that he sees everything from a wide perspective.”
A number of public figures gave long informative speeches, including 2nd in Command at the Metropolitan Police Paul Stephenson, MPs Mr Dominic Grieve and Mr Stephen Pound and the chairman himself Rami Ranger. The speeches educated the attendants whilst bringing hope and anticipation of a brighter future to all communities.
The aim of the forum is to celebrate, share and promote the rich cultural heritage that people of India and Pakistan have to offer the World. This was lavishly demonstrated through the delicious array of traditional music, dance, costume and art provided by the events supporters. The Pukaar Project holds a strong belief that music can unite all people.
Between the speeches a young Asian girl entertained the crowds with her beautiful moves. She impressed the spectators and celebrated her rich culture with them as she danced in a beautiful glowing orange and gold costume. The evening was widely enjoyed by an array of cultural backgrounds. Pakistani, Indian, British and African descendents all joined hands in support of this worthy, peace making cause.
Councillor Mrs Mimi Harker who attended the forum with her Husband said, “It was just an absolutely fabulous event. This hopefully is the beginning of something fantastic. Everyone that spoke focused on friendship and that gave a lot of hope. It was a joyful evening.”
