Aimhigher 2006
   Naomi Fraser, 25th July 2006

Pukaar team performed at the Multicultural Opportunities Fair held in Mount Pleasant School, Southampton on 15th July 2006. The Pukaar team provided a variety of live music for the broad range of guests. As they filed in for a free multi-cultural buffet Ajmal Mughal strummed relaxing classical tunes from Indian and Bangladesh on sitar, accompanied by Surjit Singh Rahi’s skilful tabla playing. As lunch came to close Jeanpy Bembwana continued the relaxed mood with his fresh melodic Congolese songs and harmonica playing, accompanied by Amit soft African drumming. Naeem Saleem from Pakistan followed with his famous folk and ghazal music, including some of his most recent tracks, singing along to the Asian harmonium with accompaniment. The Pukaar performance, as usual, then ended with it’s lively up-beat bangra tracks from the Galasian Charr album, getting those in the hall up dancing. Romail Gulzar lead the performance along with the current band: Nirmal Singh on dholak, Amit on dhol, Naeem on keyboard and Surjit on tabla. A big thank you to Naomi Fraser for DJ-ing during the breaks between artists, sharing her music from all over the world. Additionally thank you to City College Southampton for involving us in their unique event.
