Due Pukaar's development from an earlier charity we would like to thank all of our past supporters in the previous years. Without your help Pukaar’s success would not have been possible.
Although Pukaar do not function as a charity any longer, our aim to assist local communities and develop emerging talents still stands. Through the company Pukaar aim to promote and support charities and organisations nationwide, in a bid to create awareness and unity between all cultures, races and ethnicities.
Pukaar remain greatly focused on charity, donating 5% of the company’s profits to the SouthamptonYMCA, which is committed to supporting all young people. With the launch of Pukaar magazine in April, the company pledges to donate a number of pages to charity advertising.

What was Pukaar in the past?

Pukaar is a multi-cultural community-based music project, promoting new talent from the local area in and around Southampton in the UK. In February 2004, Pukaar was officially recognised as a UK charity organisation by the charity commission. As a Charitable Organization we have Trustees (or Directors), who are responsible for the proper management of Pukaar. They have been invited to take up the role on the basis of their involvement in the project, involvement in the community, and the donations and experience they bring.

Romail Gulzar started Pukaar by giving new talent the opportunity to perform live on stage before the community at Pukaar Curry Parties, which have now become a regular Pukaar event.

Vision and Purpose

For the people of Southampton and beyond to be united, celebrating their differences in culture, ethnicity, economic status, age and gender.

Our Work

To connect with as many people as possible across Southampton to fulfill our mission. We do this through organising a range of social events, the creation of a multi-cultural band, running music workshops and providing support and assistance to specific individuals.

Individual assistance includes: sponsoring refugees and others within the community who do not otherwise have the finance or confidence to attend a social function; giving individual musicians support to produce and market their work; providing volunteer opportunities for marketing, journalism, event management and website design.

Throughout all of our work we stress the importance of ongoing learning and development, from Directors down, with particular emphasis on peer support.

Community Partnership

Pukaar believes that to bring about community cohesion it is essential to work in partnership with other community groups and organisations. This both involves different degrees of linking-up with others within many aspects of our work and assisting other organizations to put on fundraising or promotional events.

Volunteers

As we are a small charity working to promote new talents, volunteers are the key to all aspects of our work. Supporting individuals to develop their skill and experience for the benefit of their community is the essence of our work.

Currently Pukaar is run and managed by a small board of directors, supported by advisory board and our team of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers who have reached a significant level of performance or mentoring within the Pukaar Band may occasionally receive payment for commercial events.
